Ever Wish You Could Be Your Own Boss?

Creating a Success Plan for Your Work From Home Business

I bet you're excited about your new business, and you should be!  In order to make it work, though, you need a success plan to ensure that your new business will succeed

A success plan involves a number of moving parts. Here are just the main ones...

1) Adopt a Success Mindset

A success mindset is the number one ingredient.  Make a commitment to yourself that you will do what it takes to make your business work.

Here are two key ingredients of a success mindset:

a) Expect success and commit yourself to accept nothing less

This means that you are committed to giving yourself the tools and the setting to help you succeed.  And what are those?  We'll talk about some of those tools in a little bit, but for now, just focus on creating a vision of where you want to be.

Also, focus on WHY you want to work from home and why you want to be successful.

And commit yourself to keep at it even if there are setbacks and disappointments.  It takes a good deal of work to get something worthwhile off the ground.

b) Don't allow yourself to get side-tracked

Once you enter the world of making money online, you'll encounter countless "shiny objects" - money-making ventures that promise enormous riches practically overnight, and some of them even tell you it's all done for you too.   Remember that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Not that there isn't the occasional outstanding "ground floor" opportunity that actually works, but the danger is that if you flit about from one opportunity to another, you'll end up going nowhere fast.

So pick something that works for you, something that has a proven track record of success, and then stick with it to put everything into place.

You won't have to put ALL your eggs in ONE basket, but you do have to complete projects in order for them to make you money.  So do them one at a time and get one finished before you set up the next stream of income. Stick to your success plan.

2) Create a Success Plan Roadmap

Setting up a road map is the first step towards your business success plan.

What kind of business do you want, and where do you want to go with it?  Who will do the work?  And so on.

3) Make Sure You Have What You Need

Next, you need to put some structures into place to ensure you have what you need to get your work done.

You will need - a workplace, preferably one that's comfortable and ergonomically sound.  Chances are that you will spend a whole lot of time sitting in that chair, so be sure it's comfortable.

Commit yourself to a certain schedule, one that includes regular breaks and some time to get some exercise and/or go for a walk outside.  It's important for your physical as well as your mental health.

You should also go and get a business license and a business bank account.  Or at least set up a PayPal business account.  And be sure to educate yourself about record-keeping requirements and tax issues.  Find a good accountant too.

And yes, that's before you even get into the actual work...

4) Decide How You Plan To Make Money

Once you have those preliminaries in place, you have to decide how you plan to make money...  there are three main options (not counting a variety of other options and/or sub-options that you can find on this site):

a) Provide a service
b) Provide goods (physical or virtual)
c) Help others sell their goods (or services)

For the purposes of this article, we'll stay focused on the above three options. Here are a few things to keep in mind...

If you sell services, you're trading time for money, so be sure not to overbook yourself - AND charge enough so you don't have to.

Of course, you could also set up a turnkey business and outsource the actual services.  In that case, you can sell a lot more since you'll have help.  Just make sure that your outsourcers will be able to deliver.  Unhappy customers are not going to help you build your business.

If you're selling goods, you also need to make sure they're of high quality.  Get your hands on some of the competing products so you can see what you're up against.

If either of those options seems too daunting, you can also choose to promote other people's products as an affiliate.  In fact, that might be the easiest way to get started.

Just make sure to watch out for one particular potential pitfall... Not all products out there are good ones.  You absolutely MUST know that any products you promote are high quality products.  Otherwise, you'll quickly earn a bad reputation, and you'll have to start over - from scratch.

5) Choose Your Target Market

Before you go any further, decide on your target market.  Whether you plan to sell goods or services, you need to find out who will buy them.  Yes, even before you decide on what to sell.  After all, you won't be selling much if no one's buying.

So the first thing you to know is if there are enough buyers out there, and how much they're willing to pay for the goods or services you plan to sell to them.  If there's a lot of competition - or a lot of free stuff - you may not have much of a chance to earn a good income.

On the other hand, if there's a large market and a lot of buyers willing to pay for what you have for sale, it'll be worth your while to go after that market even if there's a good deal of competition.

6) Decide What You Want To Sell

Once you know your target market, decide on your first product or service and get it ready for sale.  Check out the articles about product creation or affiliate marketing to find out how to do that.

7) Consider Getting A Coach Or A Mentor

If you find that this success plan sounds a bit daunting, you might want to consider getting help.  A coach or mentor can keep you focused on your success plan and will hold you accountable.  Many successful online business owners have found that having a good coach can mean the difference between ongoing struggle and great success.
