There are many very good reasons why people are drawn to the world of online data entry. It’s nice to be able to work from home, and many people prefer not having to work for a boss in a stuffy office. Plus, if you’re willing to work at it, the job can be financially rewarding, and it doesn’t have a lot of the stress and drama that go along with other types of work.
Still, many people who work in data entry eventually hit a wall. They’ve spent months or years performing repetitive tasks, with no end in sight, and starting the day with a motivated attitude becomes more and more difficult. If you’ve reached this point in your work, don’t let it get you down. Keep these tips in mind, and you’ll get your enthusiasm back in no time.
1. Update your workspace. Have you been working in the same tired old space for months, surrounded by all the same items in the same old arrangement? This could be part of why you’re losing your motivation. Take a day off to give your space an update. Give yourself a new view, throw out any old items you don’t need, and get new pictures or decorations.
2. Set goals. Do you have an ideal salary that you would like to reach in the coming year? If so, break it down and divide it into months, weeks, and days. Calculate how much you would like to make every day and figure out exactly how much work you need to do to earn that much. This way, even when the work gets boring, you will be able to feel that sense of satisfaction when you get to the end of your work day.
3. Get outside. When you work from home, it’s easy to get caught up in your small, internal world—and no, the internet does not stand in for the outside world. Make an effort to spend at least an hour every day actually being outdoors. See friends as often as you can, and be sure to get some outdoor exercise. Let’s not forget that working data entry from home is not the most physically demanding work, so you have to do other things to stay fit and keep your attitude upbeat.
4. Set aside time to focus. Many people who work from home spend a good deal of time procrastinating. This is of course part of any office work these days; it seems everyone spends just as much time social networking or browsing the web as they do actually working. But remember, as a data entry freelancer, you lose money when you are not working. So while it’s perfectly fine to kill a little time on the internet, make sure you take large chunks of time in which you do not engage in any non-work-related tasks whatsoever. This way, you will burn through a large chunk of your work in a short time, and this will give you a sense of accomplishment to carry you through the rest of the day.
5. Vary your work. Sometimes the biggest, most time-consuming jobs are the most lucrative ones, and in these cases you just have to bear down and get the work done. But whenever possible, try to have two or three different projects going on each day so you can switch to a different kind of work when you get bored or unmotivated. Of course, it can become a bit distracting when you try to juggle too many projects at once, but most data entry freelancers have no trouble going back and forth between a couple of types of work. |
